Record the action you actually took
After paying through your bank or provider, record the payment in DebtZero if you want a history of that action. The button does not send money. It also does not deduct the amount from the stored balance.
This distinction matters because interest, fees, posting delays and new spending can affect the balance independently. If you entered a payment record by mistake, use the available undo action rather than inventing an offsetting balance change.
Check balances against fresh information
Use check-in when you have a reliable current balance. Review the date and amount, then save the update. Recorded progress and milestones are based on balance history; they are not proof that every change came from a repayment.
A weekly review can remain short: look at upcoming due dates, check whether your budget still fits and decide which figures need refreshing. You do not need to change a balance merely because another week passed.
Make a backup you can recognize and protect
Settings can export a JSON file with the plan and history. Choose a private destination and keep track of when it was made. The exported file is unencrypted readable data; do not publish it or send it casually as a support attachment.
Restoring a selected file previews its contents and requires confirmation before replacing the plan. Reminders must be enabled again afterwards. Clearing the app’s plan does not erase exported copies. Delete outdated copies separately and check that you are restoring the intended file.
